The Beginning

Like any business is, it all began as an idea one evening. I was talking to my mom over the phone who lived 400 miles away. I was at a point in my career where I was no longer fulfilled with the work I was doing. After recently going through a company acquisition, I realized I wasn’t aligned with the new company’s objectives. We were both tossing around ideas when she asked,

“Did you like grooming when you were at Petsmart?”
I was silent for a while remembering that period of time and smiled.

“Well yes, I did enjoy all the dogs and grooming, I just didn’t enjoy the corporate part of it.”

“Well why don’t you do that again?”

An idea was born and I began to brainstorm the possibilities. The possibility that made the most sense was to purchase a mobile grooming unit but many I came across were $65,000 PLUS!! I didn’t have deep pockets to dish that kind of money out and start a business! I decided to put the work in and build a unit from the ground up and purchase an old ambulance that came out of service. LOTS OF ROOM!

I would have never guessed in a million years that 2 weeks after that conversation began I would be impacted by company layoffs. Although it was a stressful day, it projected me forward to make this idea a reality. Three weeks of being laid off, a family member sent me a link to an ambulance converted RV. Within the week, I had the ambulance purchased and ready to start a business. Follow along to see the journey of Groombusters Mobile Grooming and be one of my first customers in Pueblo, Colorado.
